Hi everyone.
Regular readers will have noticed I’ve not been posting weird news briefs for two weeks. As I’ve stated in the past few newsletters, I’ve not been finding worthwhile stories. Most are too silly to even discuss, as they are clearly overhyped or manufactured hoaxes. But also, I’m not in a place where I can waste a lot of time digging through the chaff for good content. Additionally, I’m not pleased with Substack right now considering their growing reputation as a host for hateful speech.
I wrote a little more on this on my home website. Please head on over there and subscribe to the site so you won’t miss a post. I have a new post related to a recent news story and, when I do find good stuff to share, that’s where I will continue to write.
Leaving Substack reminded me that I’ve never had too much of a problem saying goodbye to an audience when I felt the time had come to do so. I gave up Doubtful News when the tide turned and everything on the news became “doubtful”. I ended the podcast when I didn’t feel good about the way it sounded. I gave up my Facebook account when I didn’t want to be pigeonholed as a “skeptic” writer. I turned away from Twitter when it was obvious the platform turned rotten. I’ve also tried Medium (it turned into a paywalled site) and, like here, it pulled followers mostly via the internal platform. In a major throwback that people still remember, I used to write a blog for the Huffington Post, until they edited my work and I left. I’m not in this for the money or any fame. This is not my job, it’s my passion. When the passion sours or the scene doesn’t feel right, I have to let it go.
I’ll be consolidating my work on the SharonAHill.com site including Spooky Geology just to make it easy and have everything in one place. I will definitely keep posting to Mastodon, my social media of choice. Thanks for joining me on this ride! Hope we can continue via another vehicle.
Sorry to hear that you're moseyin' on from these here parts. Was a fun go-round. But alas, most every web platform ends up cold sh!tting the hangar at some point. Wayward space framed by derelict runes, so to speak. But this has inspired me to start my own "Weird News" round-up column, for whatever that's worth.
Good luck on your future endeavors.
Thanks Sharon! Just got a copy of Scientifical Americans from a Black Friday sale. Really looking forward to hearing more from you on whatever platform!
